Everyone's bonus was largely decided in an arbitrary manner and partners wouldnt fight for you, even if you made your numbers. In essence, look elsewhere. I came in as a mid level. There is an unwritten joke about this firm. If you throw a brick out the window in X city, you are bound to hit a former Akin Gumper. it has such a revolving door. I saw so many associates abused by partners who didnt care to the point of a nervous breakdown. The worst was the Litigation group. Plenty of cronyism, abuse of process signed off on by partners, and a very lax attitude toward compliance and ethical lawyering. I swear I saw FCPA violations being made on behalf of clients. I had a relatively benign experience and there were some good people of course but I found the place so depressing--even by BIGLAW standards. Zero transparency and a view that all associates are fungible billing units.
